“Great Gate of Kiev” section of “Pictures at an Exhibition” directed & animated by Ria Ama

In 2011, I had the great pleasure and opportunity to work with Grammy award winning conductor Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT) and the New World Symphony. To celebrate the opening of their brand-new Frank Gehry designed performance space, I worked as part of a team of young directors to create site-specific animated content to accompany a live performance by the orchestra. For the piece, I directed and animated a 5 and a half minute section entitled “Great Gate of Kiev”. Throughout the process I worked closely with MTT to develop the creative direction and style – incorporating the theme of “celebration” and informed by Russian Orthodox imagery.

Total length of “Great Gate of Kiev”: 5min 30sec
Total length of “Pictures at an Exhibition”: 35min (comprises 15 sections created by 11 directors)
Dimensions: 3767 X 648 (The projection was made of 1430k Christie projectors that projected onto 5 screens using Coolux system with Pandora’s Box software.)
